Knitting 4 Our Troops

The Denver Public Library has a fabulous “Fresh City Life” programming series for urban dwellers.  They are always doing creative programs and presentations and partnering with other organizations to create a buzz of ideas and activity at the library. The January/February 2009 theme is “Intentions” see http://www.supportlibrary.com/nl/users/denver/web/nl_26.html

One of the programs is Knitting 4 Our Troops http://denverlibrary.org/programs/fresh/knitting.html

The ambitious goal is to knit 5280 hats for our military troops on Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24 at various times and locations in Metro Denver.  Even if you don’t live in Denver, you could knit a cap and send it to the library.  They will send each cap in a care package to a soldier in need of some warm and soft cover.  What a fabulous way to contribute. Even if you are a novice knitter such as myself, you can join other knitters at a location and get some practice and coaching from the pros.

Colorado Book Awards – Local Author Recognition

Every year the Colorado Center for the Book awards Colorado authors for their excellent work in distinct categories. Please see below for the list of finalists. Getting to the point of being honored as a finalist is a significant accomplishment and reflects well on the authors. If you have local authors who are on the list of finalists, you might contact them to congratulate them, invite them to the library for an event, purchase a copy or two of their books and/or feature these books in a display.
