The Colorado State Library and the Colorado Library Consortium hosted a two day forum for new library directors. We had 17 attendees who traveled from all over the state to Buena Vista while viewing a mixture of snow and yellow aspens.

Lots of information was shared, and everyone had several chances to network including at a reception at the Buena Vista Library, thanks to Gail Nottingham.
Jeff Donlan inspired us to think about collaboration in terms of haiku and here are some of the creations. Continue reading ‘New Directors Forum…and Haiku’
The Colorado State Library (CSL) is leading the development of a statewide marketing effort that focuses on the power of libraries to transform lives and that captures the hearts, minds and support of Colorado residents.
The purpose of the campaign is to ensure the future of libraries statewide and build the Colorado library brand by increasing awareness of the transformational aspects of libraries and the positive impact libraries have on their communities. The spirit of the campaign will be courageous, humorous, and the final messages will be delightful and unexpected.
The CSL management team has convened an advisory committee of statewide library representation and together we are working with Barnhart Communications, the same firm that worked on the Wyoming campaign.
I will post updates at this blog and welcome your comments as we move forward. To find out more, please visit:

Thanks to the newest LRS staff member, Lisa Boyd, the ROI Closer Look report is finally published. She was able to gather together all the individual pieces of the study and produce a document with all the ROI study findings in one place. Of course, the individual library reports, calculators, and other ROI information are still available on the ROI webpage. Read more and comment on the LRS blog.
For most of the libraries participating in the study, the return on investment (ROI) was approximately five to one—that is, for every $1.00 spent on public libraries, $5.00 of value was realized by taxpayers.
Thanks to the staff at the eight participating libraries who generously shared their time and expertise to make this study possible.

Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy (CLEL), has expanded the Every Child Ready to Read program to 10 more public libraries in Colorado. The program provides training and materials in early literacy skills to library staff at medium and small public libraries in Colorado. The 10 libraries selected for the program will receive materials, training and mentoring to provide brain-research based story time programs and activities to their communities.
