Join Us In Beautiful Durango!
Durango Days is a 2-day CAL Continuing Education event at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, on September 18-19. The program schedule is great. Check it out. Register now at www.cal-webs.org.
Did you know that Colorado has a Continuing Education Forum? This group meets on the third Tuesday of every even month throughout the year. The meetings are open to anyone who coordinates continuing education for library staff in Colorado. Attendees include representatives from the Colorado State Library, Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC), Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL), BCR, MARMOT, Rocky Mountain SLA, several training coordinators for large library districts, as well as representation for school, public, academic and special libraries. The group works on:
- Planning continuing education for library staff
- Collaborating on CE
- Needs Assessment
- Resource sharing
- Reduce duplicative efforts
- Marketing

CLiC is offering to cover the registraton cost ($35) for six (6) people to attend the Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) MADCAL (Management and Administration Division) workshop, “Catching the Right Customer Service Program,” held May 22 in Frisco. Well we are all back from the CAL Conference in Denver and what a fun and busy time that was! CLiC promoted LEO (Library Education Opportunities) database and calendar: http://leo.clicweb.org. We raffled off our 3 stuffed LEOs … congrats to our winners: 1st place – Kari Baumann from Weld County Library District, 2nd place – Mary Walsh of Adams State College, 3rd place – Abby Koehler of Colorado BOCES. CLiC is offering FREE registration scholarships to attend CAL’s 2nd Annual Colorado Southwest Workshop Days in Durango Sept 21- 22, 2006 at Fort Lewis College.
The workshop days sessions are: Storytelling, Plinkit (open source Web site creation), CAL Legislative Committee, Grant Writing for Workshops, MS Word, Using Primary Sources with Students, Basic Book Repair, Cataloging: The Basics, Government Documents: Information Goldmine, Native American Stereotypes in Children’s Literature, Gaming in Libraries: Dungeons and Dragons, Medical Reference, Inquiring Minds Want to Know! Unmasking 21st Century Learning 21st Century Learning, 21st Century Learning: Practical Applications Panel of Durango school librairans.
There will be a talk by Sherrie Gallaway, Educator in Residence at Library of Congress about her experiences over lunc and a reception Thursday evening on campus at the Center for Southwest Studies. CASL will be hosting a Calling All School Librarians! CASL Reception friday immediately following the last session.

CLiC is busy making preparations for CAL. Come visit us at Booth 229 and spin our roulette wheel for a prize. Our grand prize on Friday and Saturday is $1000 worth of coupons to New Horizons Computer Learning Center. The CLiC Annual Meeting will be on Saturday afternoon between 3:30 – 5:00 during a High Tea.
