The Colorado Teen Literature Conference (CTLC) is currently in the planning stages (and I’m helping!).  Here’s your official SAVE THE DATE notice.

The event will be held on the Auraria campus on March 31, 2011, 8:30am-3:45pm.  Registration opens February 1st and closes March 11th. Keynote authors are Maggie Stiefvater and Todd Mitchell!

Summer Reading at Carbon Valley – the “Reading 500″

The Carbon Valley Regional Library (High Plains Library District) in Firestone did a “Reading 500″ activity this summer. Jan Cruz explains, “Each car represents a book that a Summer Reading participant read. The cars have the title of the book, author and first name of the person who read the book.” Kristi Madron (from the Centennial Park Library, also in High Plains), says this was “A fun idea in how to encourage a community to read and participate at the library.” Summer readers exceeded expectations and this turned into the “Reading 617″! Summer Reading at Spanish Peaks Library District

The folks at Spanish Peaks Library District in Walsenburg have posted some of their 2011 summer reading photos online.  Library Assistant Jeanne Hoyt says, “A picture tells a story and now you can see what our story has been this summer… Great memories to all!”

I especially like their idea of playing different games from around the world to go with the “One World, Many Stories” theme. Below, a photo of the kids playing Jogo, a South American game.

Summer Reading AND Mini-Grant Reports Now Online – Due 9/30

From what I’ve been hearing, the summer reading programs at public libraries all around the state have been a smashing success this year. Please tell us all about yours!

  1. The 2011 Summer Reading Report is to be completed by ALL public libraries, whether they used the statewide theme or made their own. Please choose one person to report for your entire jurisdiction.
  2. The 2011 LSTA Mini-Grant Report is to be completed only by libraries that received a mini-grant for their 2011 summer reading program. If your library jurisdiction received multiple grants, please submit a separate report for each location.

READ Pins for Summer Reading 2012 – ORDER NOW!

You may now place your order for READ pins for the 2012 statewide summer reading program.

We received 158 votes for this year’s pin (!!!), but this design (adjusted due to 2012 READ Pinfeedback from many of you) was the clear winner.

Following the same procedure as previous years, the Colorado State Library will place a large pin order and would be glad to “piggyback” and add your order to ours. This is a great way to promote next year’s programs, and placing a large order will make it cost effective for all of us.

Pricing details: $0.60 each (lower than last year!)

You will be emailed an invoice with the total amount owed, and this will be payable once you receive the pins in late September/early October. NOTE: A $5 shipping & handling charge will be added for orders being shipped outside of Colorado.

We will submit our bulk order on 8/12, so please submit your order NO LATER THAN Thursday, August 11th. Thank you!
