CLiC at CAL 2008

CLiC booth @ CAL

Hey, we are at the CAL Conference right now.  Lots of people coming by our booth, thought we would share some pictures with those of you who couldn’t attend.

My good friend and former coworker at the Pikes Peak Community College Library, Kay Knudsen is now working at the Colorado Division of Wildlife Research Center Library. I imposed upon her to give me a tour of her new place of employment and show me around to some other government libraries. Here’s a picture of Kay with one of the many reports the this library has in the collection. Colorado Division of Wildlife Library--Kay Knudsen

I got the grand tour of the National Wildlife Research Center Library by former CLiC Board Chair Diana Dwyer. They do amazing work! If you have never had a tour, I highly recommend it. They also have a wonderful facility that can be used for library events. I visited the USDA Forest Service Library. Laura Bojanowski was kind enough to show me around. They have a lot going on with consolidating library locations. I visited with Megan Eberhardt Frank at the U.S. Geological Survey Library and also Mary Foley a the Center for Epidemiology and Animal Health Library. What a great two days and thanks to everyone for making the time to visit with me. See more pictures.

Golfing in the Library?

Library Mini Golf

Saw this the other day and thought, what a great, innovative fund raising idea. If you’d like experts to handle it for you, check out www.libraryminigolf.org

Got Library Lit?

Today is the last day for you Colorado libraries to subscribe to Wilson’s Library Literature.

hi-fi sci-fi library

Saw this on the LibraryMan Blog. Take a look! Fair warning though…you’ll be be singing the tune all day long! I definitely recognized some of the backup singers; I’ll bet you will too.

Here’s what LibaryMan had to say, “As far as I am concerned, what the world needs is a collection of ‘hi-fi sci-fi libraries.’ And I was so excited about this idea that I just had to sing it out loud!”

Check the LibraryMan blog for background information.

ALA Midwinter Meeting in Denver – Jan 23–28, 2009

ALA

Oh come on, I hear you saying – that’s not ’til January! But trust me, there’s a committee already hard at work planning the festivities. Colorado Association of Libraries and Denver Public Library will be sharing a booth to let those out of state librarians know how wonderful Colorado libraries are. Interested in working at the booth? Send me an email.

Also in the works is a preconference and a reception for Camila Alire. More information will be coming your way (would I leave you in the dark?) as they are finalized.

Colorado Libraries Collaborate

I am the newest member of the Colorado Libraries Collaborate committee and I will admit that I needed to be updated on the process myself. Need more information. Click on the CLC logo or email me.

Sharing is the KEY to CLC!

CLC Logo

Check out the new policy template and sample policy under How Libraries Participate. Having a CLC Policy for your library will help staff and patrons better understand what the program is about and how it is implemented at your library. As Colorado libraries adopt their own policies based on the template, we’ll post them on this web site. If you’d like to post your policy, please contact Kari Baumann. Policy questions may be directed to any of the CLC committee members.

Writing Contest for Librarians

Thought some of you Colorado librarians might be interested in this.

Smart Poodle Publishing is sponsoring What I Wish Everyone Knew About Librarians

“Entrants must write an essay describing what they wish everyone knew about librarians. Ideas for your entry: Describe your job, and what it takes physically, mentally and financially to keep a library running. How long have you been a librarian? What kind of education did you get to prepare yourself for this job? Do you have any funny stories about events that have taken place in your library? What kind of sense of humor do librarians have? What type of programs does your library offer? Do you run the mobile library unit? Are you in charge of choosing new titles? Have you experienced budget cuts? Have you helped someone in any special way? Do you have an interesting, touching or hilarious story relating to kids? Do you think librarians are underappreciated? Why? Tell your story.”

Online library journal

Urban Library Journal

This is a free online journal. Check it out when you have a chance.

This month’s issue “showcases how librarians are tapping their creativity to develop innovations that allow urban libraries to meet the challenge of organizational change, diverse user populations, emerging technologies, and other issues facing twenty-first century libraries.”

Just read “Roving Librarians: Taking it to the Streets.” Very interesting! Great pictures.

Articles are available in PDF and HTML.
