(Posted on behalf of Kris Johnson, AskColorado Coordinator)
What do Billy Preston, Keanu Reeves, Jimmy Connors, AskColorado, Terry Bradshaw, and Mark Harmon and all have in common? Besides the obvious (handsome, dynamic, lots of personality, talented, athletic)…September 2nd birthdays of course! On September 2, 2003 AskColorado fielded its first online virtual reference session and has been in continual operation ever since.
Thanks Colorado Libraries/Librarians:
Thanks go out to all Colorado libraries that, over the years, have participated in making this grass-roots cooperative a success. Thanks also to all the talented librarians that staff the service, many of whom are truly handsome (or beautiful), dynamic, athletic, and of course, possess great reference acumen (as the attached photo of librarians enjoying lunch together this summer at the Estes Park Public Library attests.)
These librarians are celebrities in their own right! If you haven’t done so recently, thank an AskColorado librarian or committee member today for his or her hard work.
Moving Forward:
Last December AskColorado launched a re-branding effort. Late last spring a Twitter account was created to broadcast interesting questions posed on the service as well as user comments. Up-coming changes for the organization include moving to a new software vendor. This transition will be pretty seamless on the user end, but will require librarian training and some website up-dates for member libraries. Details about this change will be announced later this year.
Questions about the AskColorado Cooperative can be directed to the coordinator, Kris Johnson, at
askcolorado@cde.state.co.us, or 303-866-6922.
Happy Birthday AskColorado!
