New home for Spanish Peaks L.D.

Congratulations to Monica Birrer (Spanish Peaks Library Director) and staff on the grand opening of their new library. The two day event began on Friday at 11am with Library Director Monica giving a stirring thank you speech to all involved in making this project a reality. The library was then presented with the “Community Energy Project of the Year” award from the Association of Energy Engineers for the  library’s innovative efforts to incorporate green features into their newly renovated building.  Shortly after, State Librarian Gene Hainer, gave the keynote address,  and then the ribbon was cut. Take a peek inside the library.

A plethora of programs were offered for adults, teens and children. Performances by local musicians and carnival activities continued throughout the day. Saturday provided events such as an author presentation, followed by the 2009 Big Read kickoff event. Musical performances and other activities continued both on Friday and Saturday as well as door prizes a picnic lunchs, tours of the new building, and audiovisual presentations.

  • Congratulations, Monica. Am anxious to have a tour of your beautiful new facility. A marvelous job you did for Walsenburg. Looks like it was worth the headaches, heartaches, and constant paperwork.
