Excerpt by Tara Bannon (Denver Public Library)
The Toy Library is located in the basement of the Denver Public Library’s Smiley branch at 4501 W. 46th Ave. on the edge of Berkeley Park. Their hours are Tuesday 6-7:30, Thursdays 11-Noon (right after Storytime) and Saturdays 10-Noon. The hours are a bit odd, but keep in mind these guys are volunteers and donating their own time to this project.
The best thing about the toy library is that you can check these toys out for FREE! They even have COSTUMES! Website
They are currently being challenged with complying to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act that was passed by Congress last August. In order to comply to public safety standards they are going to have to get rid of numerous toys if they are not able to guarantee that they pass inspection.
