Knitting 4 Our Troops

The Denver Public Library has a fabulous “Fresh City Life” programming series for urban dwellers.  They are always doing creative programs and presentations and partnering with other organizations to create a buzz of ideas and activity at the library. The January/February 2009 theme is “Intentions” see http://www.supportlibrary.com/nl/users/denver/web/nl_26.html

One of the programs is Knitting 4 Our Troops http://denverlibrary.org/programs/fresh/knitting.html

The ambitious goal is to knit 5280 hats for our military troops on Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24 at various times and locations in Metro Denver.  Even if you don’t live in Denver, you could knit a cap and send it to the library.  They will send each cap in a care package to a soldier in need of some warm and soft cover.  What a fabulous way to contribute. Even if you are a novice knitter such as myself, you can join other knitters at a location and get some practice and coaching from the pros.

  • Hi,

Are you still collecting helmet liners for troops located in cold climates in Afghanistan? I sent 12 hand-knitted liners c/o Chris Loffelmacher/Fresh City Life, Denver Public Library through UPS a couple of months ago and never heard back from him.

Please let me know, as I have enough yarn left for another dozen hats.

    Thanks,

    Maureen

  • Hopefully you will get the above message and reply, as I’ve got multiple skeins of yarn waiting to be knitted for our troops.

    Thanks, Maureen
